Great HUGE house for Feral kitties!

Great HUGE house for Feral kitties!
I love this cat house. We’ve had it for a couple months now and it’s still holding up great! We have a bunch of feral kitties who don’t want to be inside but come for dinner every night. I didn’t want them to be cold this winter so I researched like crazy for houses. We already have 2 smaller heated houses but our feral kitties are all a family and sleep together so we needed bigger houses. Decided on this one for a few reasons. One was the size! It’s absolutely HUGE. This was the only one I could find that was really big and had the other exit opening on the side. I wanted to put it up against our house (to help keep out of the rain) so the extra emergency opening had to be on a side, not behind. Definitely big enough for at least 2 kitties to sleep. Even though most of the other heated houses claim they can fit 2 cats, I really don’t think they can. The other one we bought that claimed it’s big enough for multiple cats… definitely is NOT. One kitty at a time uses that one and it’s an XL house! This one is just so much bigger and was the same price! Just not as well of a known brand I think. The side exit is a pro or con depending on your particular need. It zips closed to help keep the heat inside in the winter and zips open for warmer temperatures but most kitties need an emergency exit other than the main opening. In order to have that with this house you have to leave the flap unzipped. There’s no option to leave it unzipped and keep the flap as a doorway because it zips from the top down unfortunately. You fold the doorway underneath at the bottom. I think if it worked like a flap door and zipped the correct way for that, this house would be perfect. It worked good to get my ferals used to being in an enclosed space since the doorway is so wide open though. They’re pretty skittish and they explored this one immediately because of that wide open door. We have another “bigger” house that has 2 small doorways and that one took awhile for them to explore …so the big doorway definitely helped with that part. They still use this one all the time even though it may get a little chilly being so open. It’s definitely big enough for them to scoot far enough back to keep warm on the mat if it’s windy or raining. The smaller front opening does come with a clear flap to help keep the heat in. Unfortunately none of my cats have ever wanted to use the doorways with those flaps attached. I think it’s too hard for some of them to get used to going through. Thankfully it’s Velcro so you can easily take it out and put in back in as your needs require. The heated cat mat totally fits the entire inside (which is huge like I said ) and it heats up super fast and has a removable cover to wash. The structure of the house feels sturdy (the cats like to sit on top of it too ) and the insulation inside feels thick and durable. The zippers all seem sturdy and seem like they will hold up to Oregon winters. The main door has the edging around it to help with keeping rain out but idk if it really does anything like the awning type doors do? Some people said they had trouble getting the house part to fit on the assembled bars. Most houses are like that and you just have to pull and adjust. It needs to fit tight to work. In the beginning I wasn’t sure about this one because of the side door issue but our kitties totally love it and use it constantly! Definitely a win for us.

This insulated/ heated outdoor cat house is pretty nice. Sturdy and fairly easy to assemble. I bought 2 of these and the only slight issue with assembly was the same with both. Nothing really important, just sliding the cover over the metal frames. Not quite square but no biggie. The heating pads, however, barely get warm. They were useless. Unfortunately, I had to pay for two new heating pads that worked much much better. If I were you, buy this without the heating pad and then purchase a heating pad separate. These heaters are junk.

After buying a pretty two story car house last year, just to see my purchase being wasted and my two outdoor cats not using it, they are finally snuggled up warm. I went with size large and it’s roomy for both cats. Easy to ensemble, waterproof, sturdy and warm. Great value for my money.

My cats love to play in the backyard but it is too cold in winter. So I bought this outdoor cat house for them.
It was very easy to install, the instructions are pretty clear. The quality of the cat house is great, the warm pad starts to heat right after I plug it in. Now I can let my cats play outside!

I looked for weeks for a suitable shelter for a feral cat that lives in my yard. I'd bring him in my house if I could, but after several years of feeding him, he still hisses at me and keeps a good distance. I finally (regrettably) chose this shelter because the side opens. I knew he wouldn't go in it if it had just a small opening. I had put out a "Dogloo" and other makeshift shelters for him over the years and he never went into any them. I thought this might do the trick because of the 2 openings and the heated pad.

The the first problem (besides being a pain to put together with practically no instructions) is, the side panel opens from the top down, leaving the flap on the bottom and the whole side wide open which pretty much defeats the whole purpose of having a heated pad and an insulated shelter. If it opened from the bottom up and the flap could be stuck to the roof with velcro, the size of the opening could be adjusted to maybe being only half or a third of the way open, keeping at least some of the cold air out.

The other issue that doesn't make any sense at all is that the actual door is right next to the side that opens rendering either opening useless as an escape door. The openings should be on opposite sides of each other so that if another animal enters, the cat can slip out the back way. Another design flaw - there's an awning over the small door, presumably to keep the rain and snow out, but the large side opening doesn't have an awning. Being wide open, lots of water/snow could easily get in. The heating pad barely gets lukewarm and it seems that not all of the elements actually warm up, and there's no designated hole for the cord to go through, it just feeds through the bottom of the side zipper. On top of everything that's wrong with this product, It's fairly cheaply made, and not worth half of the hundred bucks I paid for it. I feel terrible about that poor cat being out in the cold/rain and this thing doesn't ease my mind that it will give him much comfort.
